Buku Abel is a small village in the southeast of Ethiopia where the coffee grows higher compared to other coffee regions in the country. The Buku washing station, located a whopping 2,300 meters above sea level in the Guji region, receives ripe coffee berries from small-scale farmers in the nearby mountain areas.

The coffee in Buku Abel grows in the shade of banana plants and has a longer maturation period due to the altitude. The long maturation period results in smaller berries and hard, dense coffee beans. In order to exploit the coffee beans' full potential, the washing station has devoted all its time to berry drying of coffee.
