In Adado, everything aligned: the altitude, the rich red-brown vertisols,
the wild indigenous coffee varieties, the cool nights, and the warm, slow days. Cof-
fees from this micro-region nestled themselves into our sensory memories – elegant,
floral, often berry-sweet, and sparkling in acidity.
In the past, we used to source Adado coffees through the Yirgacheffe Union, but sea-
sons change, and opportunities shift. It took years before we could return, and we re-
turned especially because of one family: the Dinigiu family.

With a suprising message from Balese Dinigu’s son, we were reintroduced to the opportunity to source coffees
from Adado. This time, even more direct than before. His son is a lecturer at the Dil-
la university at the College of Agriculture and Natural Resource, and found Menno’s
contact through friends at the Yirgacheffe Union.
Adado is a village within the Bule Woreda in the Gedeo Zone, which the coffee world
commonly knows as Yirgacheffe.

The Gedeo people have cultivated these lands
through generations, practicing agroforestry long before it became a global aspira-
tion. Beneath indigenous shade trees like Millettia ferruginea, Cordia africana, and
Albizia, coffee grows alongside enset (false banana), maize, and sugarcane, creating a
living landscape recognized by UNESCO for its cultural and environmental significance.
Gedeo人世世代代耕耘這片土地，早在農林業成為全球趨勢之前，他們就已經開始實踐這種農業模式。在諸如鐵木豆（Millettia ferruginea）、非洲楝樹（Cordia africana）和合歡樹（Albizia）等本土遮蔭樹的掩映下，咖啡與假香蕉、玉米和甘蔗一同生長，共同構成了一片生機勃勃的景觀，其文化和環境意義已被聯合國教科文組織認可。
